ISRO's 'Bahubali' Rocket Lifts Off, Empowering Indian Navy with Advanced Communication Satellite

Sriharikota (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today achieved another historic milestone by successfully launching its most advanced communication satellite CMS-03 (GSAT-7R) for the Indian Navy.
This satellite will strengthen the Navy's space-based communication and maritime domain awareness capabilities manifold.
Successful Launch from Sriharikota
The satellite was launched at 5:26 pm today from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. It has been developed by ISRO scientists after months of hard work.
Why is this satellite special?
1. Heaviest Communications Satellite: The most significant feature of this satellite is that it is India's heaviest communications satellite to date. It weighs approximately 4,400 kilograms.
2. 100% 'Make in India': GSAT-7R is completely designed and manufactured in India. It incorporates many indigenous components specifically designed for the Navy's needs. This is a prime example of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (self-reliant India), which will eliminate India's dependence on foreign satellites.
3. High-tech Communications: This satellite will establish ultra-fast and secure communications (voice, data and video links) between naval ships, aircraft, submarines and maritime operations centres.
4. "Third Eye" in the Indian Ocean: This satellite will provide robust telecommunications coverage in the Indian Ocean region. Its high-capacity bandwidth will help the Navy strengthen its maritime presence and provide immediate information about any threats.
Increased surveillance of China and Pakistan
In a time of heightened activity by neighboring countries like China and Pakistan in the Indian Ocean, this satellite will give the Navy unprecedented power to monitor from space and take immediate action. The Navy Chief has also stated that this satellite is a major and important step in protecting the nation's maritime interests.
