Microsoft to invest ₹1.57 lakh crore in India, focusing on AI and Cloud infrastructure

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Microsoft has announced a major investment in India, with a total investment of US$17.5 billion (approximately ₹1.57 lakh crore) expected in the coming days. The company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Satya Nadella, shared this information in a social media post. According to the CEO, this is the company's largest investment in the Asian market to date. He also thanked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion.
This investment, expected between 2026 and 2029, will strengthen cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, skilling, and the company's ongoing operations in India. Microsoft's CEO, who recently visited India, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described the visit as inspiring.
Meanwhile, last October, the American company Google held a mega event called Bharat AI Shakti to discuss the future of AI in India. Several prominent ministers attended the event, and several major announcements were made from the stage. Among these was the announcement of a $15 billion investment.
Google also announced that the world's largest gigawatt-scale AI hub, after the US, is being developed in Visakhapatnam, India. The project is part of the Google Full Stack AI initiative, which aims to accelerate the development of cloud infrastructure, data solutions, and AI models in India.
