PAN-Aadhaar link alert: One name mismatch, all bank work halted - fix now before April 1st
Can't file ITR, do banking transactions or investments. Fix now to avoid hassle

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): If you use a PAN card, a major change coming on April 1st could cause you sleepless nights. The government has clearly indicated that if you don't cross-check your PAN and Aadhaar card details in time, your PAN card will become "inoperative," meaning completely useless. This simply means that even with a PAN card in your pocket, you won't be able to perform any financial tasks, from banking to filing your Income Tax Return (ITR).
Just having a link is not enough, spelling matches are also necessary
People often feel reassured that they've linked their PAN and Aadhaar, but that's no longer enough. To bring transparency to the financial system, the government has tightened regulations. If there's even a slight discrepancy between the spelling of your name on your Aadhaar and PAN card, the system will not accept it as valid. Even a small spelling mistake can lead to your PAN card being temporarily blocked, which could lead to significant inconvenience.
What work will stop after April 1?
If you don't correct this name error before April 1st, you'll face significant difficulties with many important everyday tasks. An inoperative PAN card means you won't be able to file your income tax return. Furthermore, major banking transactions could be stalled. Furthermore, your efforts to obtain a new loan, obtain a credit card, or make any major investment could be completely halted.
Correct your name in Aadhaar card in minutes sitting at home
If your name is incorrectly entered on your Aadhaar card, you can correct it from the comfort of your home. To do this, first visit the official UIDAI website and open the "Update Aadhaar" section. Enter your Aadhaar number and login using an OTP. Then, select the "Name Update" option and enter your correct name. To change your name, you'll need to upload a valid document, such as a PAN card, passport, or voter ID. Upon submitting the form, you'll receive an Update Request Number (URN), which you can use to check the status of your application.
What is the method to correct the mistake in PAN card?
If your name is misspelled on your PAN card, you'll need to visit the NSDL or UTIITSL website to correct it. Open the "PAN Correction" form and enter your PAN number and correct name. Upload your Aadhaar card or other required identification documents, pay the required fee, and submit the form. You'll receive your updated PAN card within a few days. Keep in mind that the name must be spelled exactly the same on both documents; even minor variations like "Kumar" and "K." will not be accepted.
After the correction, please check the linking status
Once your name is correct in both places, be sure to check the linking status. To do this, visit the Income Tax Department's website and check "Link Aadhaar Status." If your two documents don't appear to be linked, relink your PAN and Aadhaar immediately to avoid any financial difficulties after April 1st.
