Porn purge on X: 600 accounts wiped, 3,500 posts taken down

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Following the central government's tough stance, Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), has taken significant action. X has permanently deleted 600 accounts from its platform for posting obscene content and violating regulations. Additionally, more than 3,500 posts deemed objectionable have been removed. The company has assured the government that it will not allow the publication of obscene content on its platform and will fully comply with Indian laws.
The IT Ministry had given a 72-hour ultimatum.
This action comes just a week after the Union Ministry of Information and Technology (IT Ministry) issued a warning. The ministry strongly objected to X's AI chatbot, "Grok," creating "offensive or obscene" images and videos of women. Calling it a "gross misuse" of AI, the government warned X that if it didn't comply within 72 hours, the company would face serious legal consequences. It was only after this strict ultimatum that the platform launched this cleanup campaign.
Serious allegations against Elon Musk's 'Grok' AI
The main source of controversy is the AI chatbot "Grok" on Elon Musk's platform. The tool has been accused of creating obscene and offensive images (deepfakes) of women and children. Not only India, but also France, Brazil, Malaysia, and the European Union have expressed deep concern over this issue and criticized Grok. Governments believe the tool poses a threat to the safety and dignity of women on social media.
Shocking revelations in the investigation of 20 thousand photographs
The seriousness of this matter can be gauged from a report by a non-profit group called AI Forensics. The group claimed to have analyzed 20,000 images generated by Grok between December 25th and January 1st. The investigation found that 2% of these images depicted teenagers aged 18 or under in highly objectionable poses, such as bikinis or sheer clothing. Based on this data, the government has cracked down on the platform.
