Malaysia (The Uttam Hindu) : A police helicopter crashed into a river in Malaysia’s Johor state during a routine military training exercise on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at 9:51 a.m. after the pilot attempted an emergency landing due to a technical malfunction shortly after takeoff.
The helicopter, an Airbus AS355N model, had taken off from the Tanjung Kupang Police Station. Moments into the flight, a technical fault forced the pilot to attempt an emergency river landing. However, the aircraft plunged directly into the water.

All five personnel on board sustained injuries but were safely rescued by the maritime police, who promptly launched a search-and-rescue operation. The injured were transported to the nearby Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency jetty and later admitted to Sultana Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, the helicopter involved was a French-made Airbus AS355N, a light utility helicopter produced between 1975 and 2016. The Malaysian police had acquired the aircraft in 1996, and tenders to replace it were issued in 2024.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau. In a related incident earlier this year, in April 2025, a helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River claimed the lives of all six individuals on board, including Siemens CEO Augustin Escobar, his wife and their three children.
