Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Air India's plane coming from Kochi, Kerala to Mumbai went off the runway while landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). However, the relief is that all the passengers and crew of the plane are safe. According to the information, this incident happened at 9:27 am. Due to this, the primary runway of CSMIA has also suffered some damage, this has also been confirmed by the spokesperson of CSMIA.

A CSMIA spokesperson said, "On 21 July 2025 at 09:27 am, an aircraft arriving from Kochi overshot the runway at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). CSMIA emergency response teams were immediately activated to deal with the runway overshoot situation. All passengers and crew are safe. The airport's main runway 09/27 has suffered minor damage. The second runway 14/32 has been activated to ensure continuity of operations." The statement further said, "Safety has always been our top priority at CSMIA."

Air India said that the AI2744 aircraft coming from Kochi in Kerala to Mumbai went off the runway after touchdown during landing at Mumbai airport due to heavy rain. No passenger and crew was harmed in the incident and everyone was safely evacuated from the plane. The airline said that the plane has been stopped for investigation and the safety of passengers and crew is our top priority.

Additionally, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Monday said the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) was conducting a "fair and transparent" probe into the Air India 171 plane crash in Ahmedabad. The plane crashed minutes after take-off on June 12, killing all passengers except one.

Making his first statement in the House on the AI aircraft crash, the Union Civil Aviation Minister said that a thorough investigation is being conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and AAIB in collaboration with subject experts and the final investigation report is still awaited.
