From Test Hat-Tricks to IPL Records: Star Spinner Announces Retirement from All Formats of Indian Cricket

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Legendary leg-spinner Amit Mishra has announced his retirement from international cricket, IPL, and domestic cricket, bringing the curtains down on a glorious career spanning 25 years. The 42-year-old bowler shared the news via a press release on Thursday, expressing gratitude to the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, teammates, support staff, and fans for their unwavering support.
“Cricket has given me 25 unforgettable years. I am deeply thankful to my fans, who always stood by me. I will forever cherish the memories this game has given me,” Mishra wrote in his farewell note.
Mishra, who debuted for India in 2003 (ODI), went on to play 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is, picking up 76, 64, and 16 wickets respectively. Known for his sharp leg-spin and ability to break partnerships, he also contributed with the bat, scoring four half-centuries in Tests, with a highest score of 84.
His IPL career was equally remarkable. From 2008 to 2024, Mishra featured in 162 matches, claiming 174 wickets, making him one of the most successful spinners in the league. He represented multiple franchises, including Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. Despite limited opportunities in the last two seasons, Mishra’s IPL legacy remains unmatched—he is remembered for multiple hat-tricks and match-winning spells.
While retiring from Indian cricket, Mishra has hinted at exploring foreign T20 leagues. He is also expected to transition into roles such as coach, mentor, or commentator, sharing his vast experience with the next generation of cricketers. Cricket fans across the country are paying tribute to the veteran, celebrating his contribution as one of India’s finest leg-spinners.
