New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced that, following the Supreme Court’s directions, the list of names deleted from Bihar’s electoral roll during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process has been uploaded on the websites of District Magistrates.

Last week, the Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to make public the details of nearly 65 lakh names removed from Bihar’s voter list. Addressing a press conference, the CEC clarified that the process of voter list preparation and revision in India is a multi-layered and decentralized system, handled by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs), typically at the SDM level. Ensuring accuracy of the voter list is their responsibility.

He added that after the draft voter list is published, digital and physical copies are provided to all political parties and also made available on the Election Commission’s website, ensuring complete transparency.

Claims and Objections

The CEC informed that Bihar’s draft voter list was published on August 1, and claims and objections can be filed until September 1. During this period, any citizen or political party may apply to include eligible voters or remove ineligible names, helping ensure a flawless final electoral roll.

Addressing Rumors

Gyanesh Kumar also expressed concern over some political parties spreading misleading information regarding the revision process. He stressed that the entire procedure is legal, transparent, and open to scrutiny, urging citizens to rely only on official sources and not get misled by rumors.
