Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia has been remanded for 7 days by a Mohali court in connection with a sensational ₹540 crore drug money laundering case. He was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau from his Amritsar residence, accused of using drug money to acquire unaccounted assets and route illegal funds through domestic and foreign companies.

According to initial findings, Majithia allegedly deposited ₹161 crore in company accounts, routed ₹141 crore via suspicious foreign entities, and added ₹236 crore to company financials without explanation. The Vigilance Bureau stated the money was funneled into companies like Saraiya Industries, all without any legitimate source of income.

Amid tight security and protest by SAD workers, Majithia was produced in court, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann vowed to crack down on all political figures involved in drug-linked corruption, declaring that no one—no matter how powerful—will be spared. The next hearing is set for July 2.
