New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): OpenAI’s ChatGPT, used by millions worldwide, has now become far more than just an AI chatbot. It is increasingly a part of people’s daily lives. In a new revelation, OpenAI has disclosed what users actually rely on ChatGPT for the most — and the results may surprise many.

According to a recent study conducted by OpenAI’s Economic Research Team in collaboration with Harvard economist David Deming, people are using ChatGPT primarily for three key purposes: asking questions, getting work done, and self-expression.

The research — one of the largest analyses ever conducted, studying over 1.5 million anonymized user conversations — found that:

49% of users use ChatGPT mainly to ask questions (knowledge, facts, explanations).

40% of users use it to help with work (emails, planning, reports, productivity).

11% of users turn to ChatGPT for self-expression (emotional conversations, motivation, personal thoughts).

The findings highlight that ChatGPT is being used not just as a technical or coding tool, but as a virtual guide, writing assistant, and problem-solver. It is becoming an integral part of both professional and personal lives.

OpenAI also confirmed that it is working on making ChatGPT more human-centered and interactive in the future, so that it plays a larger role in education, work, and personal growth. This study underscores how AI has moved beyond niche technology and has now established itself as a mainstream necessity for millions across the globe.
