Midnight Horror in Delhi: Four-Storey Building Crashes Like a Pack of Cards in Punjabi Basti

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident struck Delhi’s Punjabi Basti area under Sadar Bazar police station on Tuesday early morning when a four-storey building suddenly collapsed. The Delhi Fire Service received the call at 2:52 AM. Fortunately, the building was vacant at the time of collapse, preventing any loss of lives.
Reports confirm that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had already declared the building dangerous, but residents ignored repeated warnings. After the collapse, 14 people trapped in an adjoining building were rescued safely by fire service officials, though some sustained minor injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital.
At least five fire tenders are on-site, continuing the rescue operations. Several vehicles were crushed under the debris. Delhi Police, fire department, and other agencies are jointly carrying out relief and clearance work.
Locals alleged that despite repeated complaints about the building’s deteriorating condition, no strict action was taken by authorities. Eyewitnesses described hearing loud cracks before the building came crashing down.
This tragic collapse comes just hours after another accident in Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar, where a Pizza Hut outlet witnessed an explosion, leaving five injured. Initial probe suggests the blast occurred in the compressor of an air-conditioner installed on the ground floor. Fire tenders rushed to the site, and the injured were shifted to GTB Hospital. Police have launched an investigation into both incidents.
