Delhi Metro Fares Hiked After 8 Years, Passengers to Pay More From Today

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Commuters in the national capital will now have to spend more on metro travel as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has implemented a revised fare structure from Monday, marking the first hike in eight years. The last fare revision took place in 2017.
According to DMRC, the hike is moderate, with most metro lines seeing an increase of ₹1 to ₹4, while the Airport Express Line has witnessed a maximum hike of ₹5.
New Fare Slabs (Regular Days):
0–2 km: ₹11 (earlier ₹10)
2–5 km: ₹21 (earlier ₹20)
5–12 km: ₹32 (earlier ₹30)
12–21 km: ₹43 (earlier ₹40)
21–32 km: ₹54 (earlier ₹50)
Above 32 km: ₹64
Airport Express Line: up to ₹5 hike
Concessional Fares (Sundays & National Holidays):
Up to 5 km: ₹11
Above 32 km: Maximum ₹54
The revised fares have been implemented across the entire Delhi-NCR metro network, which covers 390 km with over 285 stations. While DMRC has defended the hike as essential for operational sustainability, service quality, and infrastructure upgrades, many commuters have expressed frustration on social media, calling the decision unfair amid rising inflation.
