High-Speed Horror Near Rashtrapati Bhavan: Thar SUV Mows Down 2 Pedestrians in Delhi, 1 Dead, 1 Critical

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking road tragedy just two kilometers from Rashtrapati Bhavan, a speeding Thar SUV plowed into two pedestrians near the iconic 11 Murti area in Chanakyapuri on Sunday morning. One man died on the spot, while the other sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital, where his condition remains precarious.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was crossing the road when the SUV rammed into him at high speed. The vehicle then swerved out of control, crashed into a divider, and even lost its front wheel on impact. Disturbingly, the victim’s body lay on the road for nearly an hour before being moved.
Chanakyapuri police quickly reached the scene, detaining the 26-year-old driver and seizing the SUV. Several liquor bottles were recovered from the vehicle. The accused claimed he had borrowed the car from a friend and allegedly dozed off at the wheel at the time of the accident. Police are investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol, with medical tests underway.
A forensic team has examined the recovered liquor bottles, collecting fingerprints for further analysis. Authorities have intensified the investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and gathering other evidence. This deadly crash in the heart of Delhi’s VVIP zone once again raises urgent questions about speeding, reckless driving, and road safety enforcement in the national capital.
