Gorakhpur (The Uttam Hindu): Around 600 women constable trainees of the 2023 batch at the 26th Battalion PAC campus in Gorakhpur staged a protest on Wednesday against the lack of basic amenities. The trainees, who came from different districts of Uttar Pradesh for their training, complained about unclean drinking water, irregular electricity, and inadequate toilets.

Some even alleged that they had to bathe in open spaces due to the absence of safe and secure wash areas. A video of the trainees crying and narrating their ordeal went viral on social media, sparking outrage. Initially, the protestors blocked the road outside the campus but later moved inside and staged a sit-in outside the administrative building, vowing to continue until their demands were met.

Some trainees also raised privacy concerns, claiming CCTV cameras were installed near bathroom areas, but Commandant Anand Kumar and IG Preetinder Singh clarified that no cameras were placed inside or near the washrooms, dismissing the allegations as false.

The administration responded by assuring that construction of proper toilets and other facilities is already underway and that the water and electricity issues were caused by technical faults, which have now been resolved. Meanwhile, a physical trainer accused of using inappropriate language has been suspended following the trainees’ complaint. The IG also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone spreading false information or rumors on social media. Authorities have promised to improve the facilities soon so that the trainees can continue their training without further inconvenience.
