New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): An Indian student, Tanya Tyagi, who had travelled to Canada from Delhi for higher education, has died under sudden and unclear circumstances. Tanya was pursuing her studies at the University of Calgary. The Consulate General of India in Vancouver confirmed the incident on Thursday, expressing deep sorrow over her death and assuring that they are in touch with local authorities to provide full support to her grieving family.

While Tanya’s sudden death has been confirmed, the cause remains unknown. Authorities have not yet disclosed the medical reasons or surrounding circumstances of her passing. Her unexpected demise on June 17 has raised multiple questions, including how she died, what the conditions were at the time, who was present around her, and how the death was discovered. As of now, officials have not released any detailed findings, and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, an unverified social media post has gone viral, claiming that Tanya died of a heart attack. The post includes personal details, stating that she was a resident of Lane Number 12, Vijay Park Area, House No. 559/11D in Delhi. It also appeals to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for help in repatriating Tanya’s body to India. The post tags the Prime Minister’s Office and claims that the family is seeking government assistance to bring her remains back. However, authorities have not confirmed these claims or the cause mentioned in the post.

This incident draws parallels with a similar unresolved case from earlier this year involving another Indian-origin student, Sudiksha Konanki. Sudiksha, a 20-year-old permanent U.S. resident from Chantilly, Virginia, was a student at the University of Pittsburgh. In March 2025, she went missing while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. She was last seen on March 6 at the beach of the Riu Punta Cana hotel, and despite extensive searches, remains missing.

Tanya Tyagi’s case now adds to the growing concern over the safety and well-being of international students living abroad. The Indian consulate in Canada has assured continued cooperation with the local authorities, and further details are expected once the investigation concludes. In the meantime, the family, friends, and community are left in shock, awaiting answers and closure.
