Terror Alert Panic: ITBP Bus Plunges into River, Deadly Weapons Missing in J&K

Jammu(The Uttam Hindu): A major security scare unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday morning after a bus meant for transporting Indian Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel lost control and plunged into the fast-flowing Sindh River. The incident occurred near the Kulan Bridge, triggering immediate response from local authorities and security agencies.
Though no personnel were aboard at the time, reports of some ITBP weapons being swept away in the river following the crash have sent alarm bells ringing across the security establishment. The bus was reportedly stationed for duty pickup when it skidded off a sharp curve and tumbled directly into the water.
According to Ganderbal SSP, the bus driver survived the incident with only minor injuries and is currently in stable condition. He is being treated and questioned regarding the moments leading up to the crash.
The gravity of the situation escalated when initial assessments revealed that a few service weapons stored in the vehicle could not be accounted for. In response, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, and the Indian Army launched an extensive search and recovery mission in the river.
Officials confirmed that three firearms have been retrieved so far. However, more weapons may still be submerged or carried away by the current. Teams of trained divers have been combing the river stretch inch by inch to ensure no weapon remains unaccounted for.
Authorities have increased security in the surrounding region as a precautionary measure and are closely monitoring developments. A senior official stated that a detailed inquiry will follow to determine how the bus ended up in the river and to prevent any compromise of national security due to misplaced weaponry. As the search operation continues, forces remain on high alert, and further updates are expected once the full inventory of weapons is recovered.
