New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has made headlines again after applying for pension benefits from the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Dhankhar, who served as an MLA from Kishangarh (Ajmer district) in 1993 on a Congress ticket, is eligible to receive a monthly pension of approximately ₹42,000, as per the state’s legislative rules.

Currently 74 years old, Dhankhar qualifies for the pension under Rajasthan’s provision that allows dual or even triple pensions for politicians who have held multiple public offices, such as MLA and MP. Many former lawmakers reportedly draw pensions from more than one position. Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani confirmed that Dhankhar’s pension application has been received and is under processing.

This news comes shortly after Dhankhar’s sudden resignation from the Vice President's post on July 21, citing health reasons in a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu. His resignation sent shockwaves through political circles, as he still had time left in his term.

The opposition has been targeting the central government, questioning the silence and disappearance of a once-prominent constitutional figure. In the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi raised the issue, asking why someone so vocal in the Rajya Sabha had suddenly gone silent. Kapil Sibal also took a jab, stating, “We’ve heard of ‘missing ladies,’ but now we have a ‘missing Vice President.’” He further urged the opposition to stay alert about Dhankhar’s safety.

Sibal revealed that he had contacted Dhankhar’s personal secretary soon after his resignation and was told only that Dhankhar was "resting." Since then, no official statement or public appearance has been made, and his current location remains unknown.
