Srinagar(The Uttam Hindu): Tragedy struck in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district after a massive cloudburst hit Chishoti village in the Paddar sub-division, along the route of the sacred Machail Mata Yatra. Early reports suggest 12 to 15 people are feared dead as the sudden deluge wreaked havoc in the remote region.

The disaster triggered flash floods, damaging several houses and sweeping away two bridges — a wooden bridge and the PMGSY bridge — cutting off vital connectivity.

District authorities, along with NDRF, SDRF, police, army, and civil teams, have been rushed to the spot to carry out rescue and relief operations. The administration is on high alert, closely monitoring the situation.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir expressed grief over the tragedy, stating:

"Deeply pained by the loss of lives in the cloudburst at Chishoti, Kishtwar. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. Rescue and relief efforts have been intensified, and every possible assistance is being extended to the affected." Rescue operations are still underway as the region reels from the sudden calamity.
