Fresh Khalistan Threat in Canada: SFJ Warns of Attack on Indian Consulate in Vancouver

Toronto (The Uttam Hindu) – Khalistan-backed extremist activities in Canada have once again escalated. Radical group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has issued a fresh threat, warning of targeting the Indian Consulate in Vancouver. Alongside, the group has appealed to Indian citizens not to visit the consulate on September 18.
A poster released by SFJ features the photo of India’s new High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh Patnaik, marked with a crosshair symbol, which experts describe as a “dangerous signal.” The group accused the Indian mission of “spying on Khalistan supporters.”
The warning also cites Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s controversial 2023 statement in Parliament, where he mentioned investigating India’s alleged role in the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Adding to concerns, a recent intelligence report titled “2025 Assessment of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risk in Canada” revealed that at least two extremist groups – Babbar Khalsa International and International Sikh Youth Federation – are receiving financial support from Canadian soil.
According to Ottawa’s security agencies, Khalistani supporters in Canada have been attempting to push violent separatist activities in India since the 1980s.
So far, neither the Indian government nor Canadian authorities have officially responded to this fresh threat, but experts warn that security around the Vancouver consulate could become a serious concern amid already strained India–Canada ties.
