Landslide Horror in Himachal’s Kullu: 2 Houses Buried, 1 Dead, Several Still Trapped

Kullu (The Uttam Hindu): The continuous heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district have turned deadly, triggering yet another massive landslide on Thursday morning. Around 7:30 am, a fresh landslide struck the Inner Akhada Bazar area, burying two houses under debris.

The tragedy claimed one life, while three people, including two women, were rescued safely and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Rescue teams are still searching for those feared trapped under the rubble.

According to local authorities, one woman and five Kashmiri laborers remain stuck beneath the debris. The NDRF team has reached the spot, and a large-scale rescue operation is underway. Officials including Kullu ADC Ashwini Kumar and SDM Nishant Kumar are personally monitoring the relief efforts.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the Kullu Regional Hospital.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts on Thursday. The alert extends to Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur on Friday. While slight relief from rains is expected from 6 September, the weather is forecast to remain unstable until 9 September.

Authorities have urged residents in Kullu and nearby regions to remain on high alert as landslides and flooding continue to pose serious risks.
