Tarn Taran: Ex-MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura Sentenced to 4 Years in Jail for Assault

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): In a major development, a local court in Tarn Taran has sentenced former Punjab MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura to four years in prison in connection with a 2013 assault case involving a woman at a wedding venue.
The case dates back to when Lalpura was employed as a taxi driver. He was accused of physically assaulting a young woman during a wedding function. The woman also alleged harassment by other taxi drivers present at the event.
After years of legal proceedings, the court found Lalpura guilty and announced the sentence on Friday. With this conviction, Lalpura now faces disqualification from the legislative assembly, ending his political tenure. Sources confirm that the woman involved belonged to a Scheduled Caste community, which adds serious implications under Indian law. Lalpura's past conduct and reputation for aggressive behavior were noted during the trial.
