Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi–Shahi Idgah Dispute Back in Spotlight: Allahabad HC Hearing Today at 2 PM

Mathura (The Uttam Hindu): The long-standing Krishna Janmabhoomi–Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute is once again under judicial spotlight as the Allahabad High Court takes up the case for hearing on Friday at 2 PM. The matter will be heard by a single bench of Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, who is expected to frame the key issues of the case that could play a crucial role in its final resolution.
The dispute revolves around the land near Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple in Mathura and the adjacent Shahi Idgah Masjid. The Hindu side claims that the mosque was constructed during the reign of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb in the 17th century, allegedly after demolishing the ancient Keshavdev temple, believed to mark the exact birthplace of Lord Krishna.
On the other hand, the Muslim side asserts the historical and legal validity of the mosque, emphasizing its significance and established heritage.
Currently, over 18 petitions are pending in the Allahabad High Court, with both communities presenting competing claims related to ownership of the land, right to worship, and demand for an archaeological survey. Since October 2023, the High Court has been directly hearing the matter in a manner similar to the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, consolidating several petitions together to expedite the process.
Friday’s hearing is expected to be significant, as the Court may outline the main legal points for adjudication, paving the way for future proceedings.
The case is considered highly sensitive both religiously and historically, with the Hindu side demanding reconstruction of the temple and rights over the land, while the Muslim side insists on preserving the mosque’s historic existence.
