New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In one of its biggest clean-up drives, Meta has permanently deleted 1 crore Facebook accounts in the first half of this year for running duplicate profiles and spreading spammy content. The company revealed that these fake accounts were created to exploit Facebook’s algorithm and audience reach, often by cloning popular content creators’ profiles to mislead users.

Additionally, 5 lakh other accounts faced strict action for comment spamming, bot-like engagement, and recycling old content to artificially boost visibility. Meta stated that its motive is to keep Facebook feeds clean, relevant, and authentic, especially as AI-generated content floods social media platforms.

The company has also introduced new policies to reward original content creators, particularly those producing unique images and videos, while using advanced technology to detect and limit the reach of duplicate content. This move comes as Meta ramps up its AI infrastructure, signaling tougher measures against spam, bots, and fake profiles to enhance user trust and platform integrity.
