Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): A massive security scare gripped Mumbai after the city police received a WhatsApp message claiming that bombs had been planted in 34 vehicles across the city ahead of Anant Chaturdashi. The threatening message, sent to the Mumbai Traffic Police’s WhatsApp helpline number, alleged that 400 kg of RDX had been placed in cars and that the explosions could kill up to one crore people.

The message also mentioned the name of a terror outfit called “Lashkar-e-Jihadi” and claimed that 14 Pakistani terrorists had already entered India.

Taking the threat seriously, Mumbai Police immediately launched an investigation. A senior police officer confirmed that the number used to send the message is being traced. “Mumbai Police is always on alert. Citizens should not panic, the situation is fully under control,” the officer said.

This is not the first such incident in recent weeks. On August 22, Mumbai’s Girgaon ISKCON temple received a threatening email, which later turned out to be a hoax. Earlier, the Four Seasons Hotel in Worli was also threatened with an email claiming multiple IED blasts.

With Ganesh visarjan processions scheduled, Mumbai Police have stepped up security measures across sensitive locations, ensuring close monitoring by the bomb detection and disposal squads.
