Kathmandu (The Uttam Hindu): Nepal’s new interim Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, and her cabinet have announced their first major decision after taking office. The government has declared September 17 as a national day of mourning to pay tribute to the youths who lost their lives during the recent ‘Gen-Z protests’.

As per the decision, the national flag across Nepal will fly at half-mast on September 17. In addition, all Nepali embassies and diplomatic missions abroad will lower their flags in remembrance of the deceased youths. This step is seen as a recognition of the Gen-Z movement, which played a pivotal role in bringing about political change and the formation of Karki’s government.

The cabinet also decided to revoke all decisions and proposals made by the previous KP Sharma Oli government. This move aims to establish a transparent, corruption-free governance system and signal a fresh policy direction under the new administration.
