Sambalpur(The Uttam Hindu): In a shocking turn of events, a 29-year-old man from Bhatigaon village in Odisha’s Bargarh district cheated death twice within just 24 hours, attempting suicide both times but surviving due to timely intervention.

The man, identified as Subir Sirdar, first tried to take his own life on Tuesday night by slashing his throat with a sharp weapon at his home. Family members rushed him to Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition. As his health deteriorated, doctors referred him to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Sambalpur for advanced treatment.

Doctors at VIMSAR’s casualty ward provided emergency care before transferring him to the ENT department for surgery. An operation was scheduled for Wednesday at 11:30 am. While waiting outside the operating theatre, Subir slipped away unnoticed. Moments later, he was spotted on the rooftop of the ENT building.

Before anyone could stop him, he leapt from the first floor — but miraculously, hospital staff and bystanders managed to catch him mid-fall, preventing severe injuries and saving his life for the second time in less than a day.

Subir was immediately taken back to the casualty ward, where he remains under strict medical and psychiatric observation. Hospital authorities suspect he is suffering from severe mental distress, prompting repeated attempts to end his life. His condition is described as serious but stable, and treatment is ongoing.
