Punjab on High Alert as Torrential Rains Turn Rivers Violent, Beas and Sutlej Swell Submerging Dozens of Villages

Jalandhar (The Uttam Hindu): Continuous heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has triggered flood-like conditions in Punjab. The Beas river has taken a violent form, causing floods in Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi, and Tarn Taran districts.
The rising water level of the Sutlej has worsened the situation in Fazilka, while Harike headworks in Tarn Taran has also crossed danger levels, flooding several villages. In Jammu & Kashmir, the Ravi river has swollen after torrential rains, submerging multiple check-posts and villages in Pathankot, where water has reached 2–3 feet in depth.
Rescue operations are underway. Khalsa Aid volunteers are shifting stranded animals to safer places in Sultanpur Lodhi while providing food and shelter for affected villagers. Authorities have issued a flood alert across Punjab, warning of heavy to above-normal rainfall in districts adjoining Himachal Pradesh.
