Doha(The Uttam Hindu): A recent Israeli attack in Doha, the capital of Qatar, has dealt a serious blow to the ongoing ceasefire negotiations with Hamas. Hopes were high for progress in the second round of ceasefire discussions, but this unexpected military strike has dramatically shifted the situation. Qatar, which had been acting as a mediator between Hamas and Israel, may now take a firm stance against Israel following the attack that killed senior Hamas commanders in Doha.

The incident has sparked outrage across the Islamic world. Countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have strongly condemned the strike. In response to growing tensions, Qatar has called for an emergency meeting of Arab and Islamic nations, scheduled for Sunday and Monday. During this meeting, discussions may take place regarding a formal resolution against Israel.

U.S. President Donald Trump has also stepped in to manage the escalating crisis. He is set to meet with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in New York, where the Israeli strike will be a key topic. Trump has previously condemned the Israeli attack and has shown consistent support for Qatar. It is expected that he will urge Qatar to maintain restraint while holding Israel accountable for its actions.

Qatar’s Prime Minister is expected to use this meeting to apply diplomatic pressure on Israel. Arab and Islamic nations have already expressed solidarity with Qatar, and several Western countries — including the UK, France, Germany, and Australia — have also criticized Israel's actions. Moreover, five European countries have announced plans to officially recognize Palestine during the United Nations General Assembly at the end of September.

The Qatari Prime Minister will arrive in Washington on Friday, where he is scheduled to meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance. Later in the evening, he will hold talks in New York with President Trump and U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
