Priyanka Gandhi Defends Rahul After SC Remarks: “Judiciary Can't Decide Who is a True Indian”

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court's sharp observation questioning Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's patriotism over his remarks on the Indian Army has sparked a political storm. Reacting strongly, Congress General Secretary and Rahul Gandhi’s sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, stated on Tuesday that no judge or judicial body has the authority to determine who is a “true Indian.” Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi said, “With due respect to the judiciary, I must say it is not the job of the courts to decide who is a true Indian. Rahul Gandhi has always shown respect and admiration for our Army and soldiers. His speeches consistently reflect that respect.”
She further asserted, “He is the Leader of Opposition and it is his duty to question the government. But instead of responding, the government tries to silence him through such tactics. The House has been stalled for days. Why can’t the government hold a discussion on the SIR report when the entire opposition is demanding it?”
The controversy began when the Supreme Court commented on Rahul Gandhi’s statement during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, in which he referenced the December 9, 2022, clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Tawang sector, stating that “China has occupied our land.” The court questioned, “Would a true Indian make such statements?”
