Putin Agrees on Peace Talk with Ukraine amid Pressure from Trump's Ultimatum

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu)- US President Donald Trump had given a 50-day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine. After which Russia has now said on Sunday that Putin wants a peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis, but we will not back down from our goals.
Russia had earlier stated that it did not care about Trump's threats, but now it is under pressure. Russia once again clarified its position on the Ukraine war, saying that President Vladimir Putin is ready for peace talks, but Russia will not back down from its "strategic goals". Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday, "Peace is possible, but our goals are paramount." This statement came just days after Trump gave Russia a 50-day deadline. Donald Trump had warned that if Russia did not agree to a ceasefire within 50 days, the US would impose more stringent sanctions. The Kremlin said that Russia would continue to defend its interests and would not succumb to Western pressure. The Kremlin spokesman further said that the world has now become accustomed to Trump's occasional 'harsh' rhetoric, but it is also true that Trump has kept the possibilities of a peace agreement open in his recent statements about Russia.
Trump has taken a tough stance against Russia and has announced new military aid to Ukraine, including Patriot missile defense systems. The Kremlin said Russia is not refusing to negotiate, but Ukraine and its Western partners accuse Moscow of deliberately obstructing peace talks. Meanwhile, Russia has intensified long-range drone attacks on Ukrainian cities. According to reports, the number of drones fired by Russia in one recent night was more than the total attacks in several months of 2024.
