Kyiv (The Uttam Hindu) – The Russia–Ukraine war has escalated to new heights as Russian forces carried out one of their largest strikes yet on the city of Zaporizhzhia. According to officials, Russia launched more than 100 drones and nearly 150 glide bombs, causing widespread destruction. Ten apartment buildings and twelve private houses were damaged. At least one person was killed and 20 others, including four children, were injured. Several fires also broke out in residential areas.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that multiple cities came under attack, not just Zaporizhzhia. He appealed urgently to European leaders, warning that “Europe’s security depends on providing Ukraine with a multi-layered air defense system.” Zelensky claimed that in just the last two weeks, Russia has launched 3,500 drones, 2,500 glide bombs, and nearly 200 missiles.

In retaliation, Ukraine struck back by targeting an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region overnight.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has undergone a significant military shake-up. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi dismissed two senior officers — Volodymyr Silenko of the 17th Army Corps and Maksym Kytukhin of the 20th Army Corps — after setbacks in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk, where Russian forces managed to seize several villages.

Amid the intensifying conflict, the Trump administration has approved its first weapons aid package for Ukraine. Sources say the package will be delivered under a new financial framework with allied nations and is expected to reach Kyiv soon.
