Ujjain (Uttam Hindu News): As the holy month of Sawan begins, a spiritual wave has swept across India. From Ujjain to Deoghar, and Khandwa to Meerut, lakhs of Shiva devotees have gathered to offer Jalabhishek and prayers at temples, chanting “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam” with intense devotion.

In Ujjain, the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple saw massive crowds from 3 AM onwards for the special Bhasma Aarti on the first day of Sawan. Devotees performed rituals including Panchamrit Abhishek, and the deity was adorned with sandalwood, dry fruits, and a silver crown. Temple premises echoed with “Jai Mahakal”, and authorities ensured smooth darshan and security.

Meanwhile, in Khandwa, thousands arrived at the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga after purifying themselves in the sacred Narmada River. Locals believe that Lord Shiva rests at Omkar Parvat each night, making the Shayan Aarti here spiritually significant. Officials estimate over 50,000 devotees will visit the shrine on day one.

In Deoghar, Jharkhand, the globally famous Shravani Mela kicked off at the Baba Baidyanath Temple. Lakhs of Kanwariyas arrived from Sultanganj, carrying Ganga water to offer at the Jyotirlinga. While devotees appreciated arrangements by Bihar and Jharkhand governments, they also suggested better crowd management as the footfall continues to grow. The fair will conclude on Raksha Bandhan (9 August).

Temples in Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) also saw long queues of devotees performing rituals and observing the first Monday fast of Sawan — a day considered highly auspicious for offering belpatra, water, and prayers to Lord Shiva.

This holy month will continue for 30 days, and millions across the country are expected to participate in the rituals and celebrations. District administrations have deployed extra arrangements to ensure safety, convenience, and a smooth spiritual experience for all pilgrims.
