New Month, New Rules: Silver Hallmarking to LPG Price Cuts—Here’s What Changed Today

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): As of September 1, 2025, several new financial and service-related rules have come into effect in India. These changes are expected to directly impact the daily life and expenses of the common man. Here's a breakdown of the major updates:
1. Hallmarking of Silver Begins (Voluntarily)
Just like gold, silver items will now come with hallmarking, starting today. Though not mandatory yet, buyers can now opt for silver products with a unique 6-digit HUID code, making it easier to verify purity. BIS has introduced purity standards of 800, 835, 900, 925, 970, and 990 for silver.
2. SBI Credit Card Reward Points Rules Updated
From today, SBI has stopped reward points on transactions related to digital gaming platforms and government services for the following cards:
Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card
Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card Select
Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card Prime
3. Post Office Registered Post Upgraded to Speed Post
Starting today, all Registered Post services have been upgraded to Speed Post. This means faster delivery and services governed by Speed Post standards for all previously registered post mailings.
4. Commercial Gas Cylinder Becomes Cheaper
Oil companies have reduced the price of the 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder by ₹51.50. In Delhi, the new rate is ₹1580.
No change in the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders.
