Anchorage (Uttam Hindu News): Russian President Vladimir Putin has exposed the double character of the US administration to the world in a press conference after a historic meeting in Alaska on Friday. Putin made a big revelation and said that since the Trump administration came to power, bilateral trade between Russia and the US has increased by 20%.

Putin's statement has come at a time when the US has imposed a hefty tariff of 50% on India for oil trade with Russia. After this revelation, serious questions have been raised on the policies of the Trump administration.

Putin's statement and its meaning

Putin said, "Since the new (Trump) administration came to power, bilateral trade has started to grow. Our growth rate is 20 percent." He also indicated that the two countries could increase cooperation in areas such as trade, digital technology and space exploration. This statement has sparked a new debate on social media, where users are accusing the Trump administration of hypocrisy and duplicity.

US action on India

In contrast, the Trump administration has taken tough measures on India for continuing to import oil from Russia. The US alleges that India's purchase of oil is providing Russia financial support to continue the Ukraine war. Earlier this month, a 25% tariff was imposed on India and a few days later it was increased by another 25%. This total 50% tariff will come into effect from August 27.

India's strong response

India has strongly condemned the tariffs, calling them "unfair, unjust and unfair". The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement accused Western countries of adopting double standards and said India's oil import policy is based on its national interests and energy security.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself said on Thursday, "The interests of our farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers are our top priority. India will never compromise on their interests." He also said that India is ready to face this "heavy price". Economic experts believe that only 4.8% of India's total exports will be affected by this tariff
