In New York (The Uttam Hindu): It’s reported that former U.S. President Donald Trump has just signed a new proclamation that imposes a complete travel ban on citizens from several countries, while also placing partial restrictions on others. This move is said to be aimed at bolstering national security.

The countries that are facing a total travel ban include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Citizens from these nations will no longer be permitted to enter the United States, with the ban taking effect from Monday at 12:01 a.m.

On the other hand, there are partial restrictions for citizens from countries like Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. Travelers from these places will now need to go through rigorous background checks and meet specific conditions to gain entry into the U.S.

This travel ban affects both immigrant and non-immigrant visas, which include B-1 (business), B-2 (tourist), F (student), M (vocational), and J (exchange program) visas.

Key Reasons Behind the Ban:

- Taliban control in Afghanistan

- State-sponsored terrorism in Iran and Cuba

- High visa overstay rates in Chad and Eritrea

- Lack of cooperation with U.S. security agencies from certain countries

Trump emphasized that this decision is crucial for ensuring the safety of American citizens. This new policy expands upon his first-term travel ban, which was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court back in 2018.
