Dehradun/Haridwar(The Uttam Hindu): Heavy rainfall and a sudden cloudburst in Uttarakhand have caused severe flooding and waterlogging across Dehradun and nearby areas. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted two major rescue operations in the Premnagar area, saving a child trapped in the Swarna River and 497 students from Devbhoomi College.

Officials reported that the child was safely evacuated and provided immediate medical attention. The student evacuation was carried out after rising floodwaters stranded them inside the college campus.

Haridwar has been placed on high alert as the Ganga River water level rises sharply. Authorities are urging locals to avoid riverbanks and follow safety instructions. Police are conducting awareness campaigns via loudspeakers in vulnerable areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, inquiring about the situation and assuring full support from the central government. Disaster management teams and local authorities continue to monitor the affected areas closely.
