Shocking: RPF and GRP Rescue 56 Women Being Taken to Bihar on Fake Bengaluru Job Promise

Siliguri/New Jalpaiguri(The Uttam Hindu): In a major breakthrough against human trafficking, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) foiled a massive trafficking attempt at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station in West Bengal. Authorities rescued 56 young women, who were being lured with fake job promises and taken towards Bihar. Two people, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to officials, the incident took place on the New Jalpaiguri-Patna Capital Express. RPF personnel grew suspicious after noticing an unusually large group of women traveling together without proper tickets. None of the women had valid train tickets; instead, their hands were marked only with the coach and seat numbers, raising further suspicion.
When interrogated, the accompanying man and woman claimed that the women were being taken for employment in a company in Bengaluru. However, when the police questioned why they were heading to Bihar instead of Bengaluru, the two suspects failed to give any convincing explanation and kept contradicting each other. They also lacked any legal documents related to the movement of the women.
The police immediately arrested the duo on the spot. The rescued women, aged between 18 and 31, belong to different districts of West Bengal, including Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, and Alipurduar. Authorities have now launched a deeper investigation, suspecting a larger human trafficking network operating across states. The rescued women have been safely handed over to their families. GRP and RPF officials confirmed that they are coordinating with other agencies to trace the masterminds behind this trafficking racket.
