Actor's Last Words Become Reality as He Dies on Stage Playing "Dashrath"

Chamba (The Uttam Hindu): A Ramlila performance in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, was plunged into mourning when a 73-year-old veteran actor playing King Dasharatha died of a heart attack on stage. In a tragic twist, he died just after delivering his final line, "I will sacrifice my life for you."
This tragic incident occurred late at night during the Ramlila performance held at the historic Chaugan grounds in Chamba. 73-year-old Amresh Mahajan, known locally as "Shibu," played the role of King Dasharatha. Around 1:30 a.m., the Sita Swayamvara scene was being staged. A dialogue was taking place on stage between Dasharatha and Vishwamitra.
According to eyewitnesses, as soon as Amresh Mahajan finished his line, "I will sacrifice my life for you," he began to feel uneasy. He placed his hand on a fellow actor's shoulder and collapsed unconscious on stage. At first, the audience and fellow actors thought it was a part of the performance, but when he didn't wake up for a long time, chaos erupted on stage.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead. Amresh Mahajan had been associated with the Ramlila for the past 40 years, winning hearts with his powerful portrayals of Ravana and Dasharatha.
Locals said with heavy hearts that Amresh Mahajan had announced before the start of this year's Ramlila that it would be his last performance. No one imagined his announcement would come true. The incident has left the area in a state of mourning.
