Viral CCTV Footage: Thar Driver's Intentional Hit on Elderly Man Sparks Outrage

Jammu (The Uttam Hindu): A heartbreaking incident has come to light from the posh area of Green Belt Park in Jammu, where the driver of a speeding Mahindra Thar first hit an elderly man riding a scooter and then reversed the vehicle in a few moments and deliberately tried to crush him. This entire barbaric act was captured in a CCTV camera installed nearby and its video is now becoming increasingly viral on social media, which has caused great anger among the people.
According to CCTV footage, the incident took place near Green Belt Park in Gandhi Nagar on Sunday afternoon at around 2:18 pm. In the footage, a black Mahindra Thar tries to overtake another vehicle at high speed and hits 65-year-old Kamal Dutt, who is riding a scooter. Kamal Dutt, who runs a vehicle spare parts shop, falls on the road immediately after the collision.
An even more horrifying scene is seen when Kamal Dutt tries to get up, then the Thar driver puts the car in reverse gear and moves rapidly towards him and hits him again and crushes him. After this, the accused driver gets down from the car, points his finger towards the injured old man and says something, but instead of helping him, he sits back in the car and flees from the spot.
Locals immediately rushed the injured Kamal Dutt to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu, where his condition remains critical and he is unconscious. Calling it an 'attempt to murder', his son said, "Our father was hit twice by the Thar driver. A murder case should be registered against him. He is battling for life in the ICU."
Jammu district police took swift action in the case and seized the Thar with Jammu and Kashmir number plate and took the car owner, Rajinder Anand, a resident of Nanak Nagar, into custody. According to the police, the car was being driven by Rajinder's son Manan Anand at the time of the incident, who is currently absconding. Police are continuously conducting raids to arrest him.
Police tweeted, "The statements of witnesses have revealed the intention to cause harm... The search for the absconding driver is on." A case has been registered under various sections in this matter and investigation has been started. On social media, people are calling this incident an 'attempt to murder' and demanding the harshest punishment for the accused.
