Raebareli (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case of gross negligence or a deep conspiracy by the tax department has come to light from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. Here, a poor potter, who somehow earns his living by making clay pots on the wheel, has been sent a GST recovery notice of more than one crore rupees. When this government order reached the house of Mohammad Shaheed, a resident of Raghuveerganj Bazaar, the ground slipped from under his feet. Being illiterate, he did not understand anything at first, but when the people around him read out the huge amount of the notice, the potter and his entire family were shocked.

Recovery order came from Hajipur, Bihar

According to reports, Mohammad Shaheed has been making clay pots and toys for generations. A letter arrived in his name via post from the Central Goods and Services Tax and Central Excise Department (Vaishali Division, Hajipur). The letter identified a tax due of ₹1,25,297 and instructed him to pay it immediately. The victim clearly stated that he has never owned a firm or company, nor is he involved in any business or partnership. Therefore, the receipt of this notice worth crores of rupees from Hajipur, Bihar, clearly points to a major fraud.

Poor family becomes victim of fraud, appeals for justice

Terrified by the prospect of paying this exorbitant amount, the potter has now appealed to senior local officials for justice. Mohammad Shaheed believes a cunning fraudster misused his PAN card to perpetrate this fraud, unbeknownst to him. He demanded the administration cancel the fraudulent notice, stating that if the government doesn't help him, he will never be able to repay this amount even if he sells his small house and all his belongings.
