5% Discount on Russian Crude Oil for India: Russia Makes Big Announcement Amid US Tariffs

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On one hand, while America is continuously pressurizing India for the purchase of crude oil and is threatening to impose tariffs, on the other hand, Russia has made a big announcement while maintaining its friendship with India. Russia has made it clear that it will continue to supply crude oil to India at a discount of 5 percent.

This statement has come at a time when recently the US administration had announced to impose heavy tariffs on India for buying oil from Russia.

In a statement, Russia's Deputy Trade Representative in India, Evgeny Griva, said, "India will continue to enjoy a 5 percent discount on purchases of Russian crude oil." He also stressed that despite the current global situation and US threats, oil trade between India and Russia will continue uninterrupted.

In fact, the US and Western countries argue that India buying oil from Russia amid the Russia-Ukraine war is like indirectly helping it financially in the war. On this basis, the US recently announced a tariff of 25% + 25% on India, which India strongly opposed.

In response, India has always taken a clear stand that it takes decisions according to its national interests to meet its energy needs and has never interfered in Russian politics. This latest statement by Russia supports India's stance and reflects the strong strategic partnership between the two countries.
