A New Chapter in Saudi Arabia–China Ties: Both Countries Approve Relaxation in Visa Rules

Riyadh/Beijing (The Uttam Hindu): Diplomatic and trade relations between China and Saudi Arabia continue to deepen. In this direction, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Riyadh on Sunday and held an important bilateral meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan at his invitation. After the high-level talks, both sides agreed to further strengthen dialogue and coordination on regional and global issues.
During the meeting, China and Saudi Arabia reached a key agreement to grant visa exemption to holders of diplomatic and special passports, removing the requirement of visas for such travelers. This step is being seen as a major move to ease official travel and enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides praised the current level of bilateral relations in the fields of economy, trade, and investment. According to the joint statement, China and Saudi Arabia agreed to expand cooperation not only in traditional sectors such as energy and investment, but also in new energy and green transition initiatives. During his visit, Wang Yi also met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. As per a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday, Wang Yi reiterated that China has always regarded Saudi Arabia as a priority partner in Middle East diplomacy and an important global partner.
On the diplomatic front, China once again highlighted its active role in the Middle East. Wang Yi expressed full support for the improving relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran and their continued development. The statement added that China appreciates Saudi Arabia’s efforts and role in promoting regional and international security. Both sides also discussed the Palestine issue and reaffirmed their support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
It is noteworthy that Wang Yi is on a tour of three Middle Eastern countries. His visit began in the United Arab Emirates, followed by Saudi Arabia, and is expected to conclude in Jordan. While the joint statement released by China’s official news agency Xinhua did not specify all areas of enhanced coordination, agreements on visa exemptions and shared positions on Iran and Palestine clearly indicate the growing strategic partnership between the two nations.
