After 33 years, America to conduct nuclear test again; Trump says must match Russia, China

Washington DC (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump has directed the Defense Ministry (Pentagon) to immediately begin testing nuclear weapons. He says that these tests should be conducted at the same level as China and Russia. It is noteworthy that the US last tested nuclear weapons in the year 1992. On Wednesday, Trump posted on the social media platform 'Truth Social' and wrote that in view of the nuclear tests being conducted by other countries, he has ordered the Department of War to immediately begin testing on an equal basis.

It's worth noting that the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) established a global ban on underground nuclear tests in 1996. Although the United States and China have signed the treaty, it has not yet been formally ratified.

Russia and China also halted testing since the 1990s. Now, Trump's hint of resuming testing has raised fears of a new global nuclear competition.
