America's New Tariff Rule Sparks Chaos: India, Britain, Germany, France Halt Postal Services to US

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): There is confusion in countries around the world regarding a new tariff rule of America, due to which after India, many big European countries have temporarily suspended their postal parcel services to America. These countries include countries like Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Austria.
In fact, the former Trump administration of America had issued an order on July 30 this year, under which the tariff exemption on goods up to $ 800 (about 70 thousand rupees) coming from abroad has been abolished. This new rule is to come into effect from August 29. However, no clear information has been given by the US about how this new tariff will be collected and what will be its process. Due to this confusion, postal services around the world have stopped sending parcels.
The Indian Postal Department issued a press note on August 23 informing that from August 25, booking of most postal items to be sent to the US will be temporarily suspended. According to the Ministry of Communications, this decision has been taken due to the lack of clarity on the process of applying and collecting tariffs by the US. Services will be restored only after the situation becomes clear.
In Europe too, sending parcels to the US has been almost completely stopped. The European postal organisation 'Post Europe' has cited lack of clarity on the new tariff rules as the main reason for this. Germany's Deutsche Post, Britain's Royal Mail and Italy's postal services have suspended their services to the US, while Britain has even announced to impose additional charges. France and the Netherlands have also refused to send parcels until the process of tariff collection is clear, making it a continental issue.
