Another Hindu youth killed ahead of Bangladesh elections, body found with hands and feet tied in tea plantation

Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Just a day before the general elections scheduled in Bangladesh on 12 February, fear has spread among the minority Hindu community following the killing of another Hindu youth. On 11 February, the body of 28-year-old Ratan Sahukar was recovered from a tea plantation in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar district.
According to reports by The Daily Star, police said the victim’s hands and feet were tied, and there were clear signs of severe injuries on his body. The incident has raised fresh concerns about election-related violence and the safety of minorities in the country.
Local residents spotted the body around 10 am at the Champara tea plantation and immediately informed the police. The body was soaked in blood and had deep wounds at several places. Kamalganj police station in-charge Abdul Awal confirmed the identity of the deceased as Ratan Sahukar, who worked at the same tea garden and was a resident of the Islampur Union area.
Family members said Ratan had been missing since the previous night. His elder brother, Laxman Kar, stated that they searched for him throughout the night and were later informed about a body found in the plantation. Upon reaching the spot, they identified it as Ratan. The family said they have no idea why he was killed.
The family remains in deep shock. A tea garden worker, speaking on condition of anonymity, said locals suspect that Ratan may have been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped in the plantation. Some people are also linking the incident to the upcoming elections, though no concrete evidence has emerged so far. Police have sent the body to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. An investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to identify and arrest the suspects.
