Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Amid concerns about press freedom in Bangladesh, news has emerged that Global TV's news head and senior journalist, Nazneen Munni, has been targeted. According to reports, some young people, claiming to be associated with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, have demanded that the channel's management remove Munni from her position within 48 hours, or they are threatening to set the office on fire.

7-8 young men arrive at Global TV's office, pressuring management

According to reports, a group arrived at Global TV's Dhaka office and met with the channel's managing director, demanding Munni's removal. They allegedly threatened to set the office on fire if their demands were not met, "like Prothom Alo and The Daily Star."

Nazneen Munni, who was not present in the office at the time, later claimed in a social media post that the threats were part of a pattern of intimidation of journalists that has intensified recently.

The organization denied the allegations, saying they had gone without permission

Anti-Discrimination Student Movement head Rifat Rashid said that some people had visited the channel's office without the organization's permission and that the organization does not support such threats. He also called for action against those involved.

It is noteworthy that following the death of student leader Osman Hadi, widespread violence erupted in Bangladesh, with extremists setting fire to several buildings, including the offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. Students claim that Naznin Munni is a supporter of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party. However, Munni has denied these claims.
