Calls for Hasina's Return Grow as Bangladeshis Express Dissatisfaction with Yunus' Government

Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): It has been almost a year since the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus came to power in Bangladesh, but the situation in the country has not completely returned to normal. Amid reports of increasing violence and extremism in this new regime formed after Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power in August last year, people's opinion is divided. While on one hand some people are happy with the work of the current government, a large section is demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina.
Speaking to news agency ANI at an Integrated Check Post on the India-Bangladesh border, a Bangladeshi national said, "The situation in Bangladesh is not good. We are getting reports of violence from different parts of the country every day. We are in favour of peace, but peace has not returned yet. Despite all this, a large section of people still demands the return of Sheikh Hasina."
Sapna Rani Saha, who came to India for treatment, also said that there are reports of violence in many parts of Bangladesh. She said, "We still want to support Sheikh Hasina, but it is true that she has made some mistakes and now she is paying the price for it."
However, many people also seemed satisfied with the current situation. Another person said, "The situation in Bangladesh is not so bad. There are some issues going on in my country regarding politics, which have been going on since 1971. I think our interim government is doing a good job."
Meanwhile, Bangladesh's interim government has formed a committee to probe the violence that broke out in Gopalganj on July 16. At least four people were killed and dozens injured in violent clashes between Awami League (AL) supporters and security forces following a rally of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Gopalganj on Wednesday.
The committee, headed by Home Ministry Senior Secretary Naseemul Ghani, will submit its report within two weeks, the press wing of the Chief Advisor said in a statement on Thursday.
