VIDEO: Air Force Jet Crashes into Dhaka College, Huge Fire Breaks Out; Many Feared Dead

Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident took place in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Monday afternoon, where a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) collided with a building in a college campus and crashed. After the collision, there was a huge explosion in the plane and it caught fire, due to which many students are reported to have died. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the F-7 BGI training aircraft took off at 1:06 pm today and soon after crashed into the Milestone College campus in the Diabari area of Uttra in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Army, Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the spot and a massive rescue operation was underway. In videos shared by eyewitnesses on social media, army personnel can be seen evacuating several injured students from the accident site. "We rushed some of the burnt students to the hospital in rickshaws and vans. Their clothes were torn and some were walking towards the rescue vehicles with their burnt bodies," said Nuruzzaman Mridha, a teacher.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred just as the students were coming out after the day's classes were over. A fire service official said at least six or seven students were injured in the crash and fire. The injured are being admitted to Dhaka Medical College and the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
It is not yet clear whether the pilot of the plane, Squadron Leader Mohammad Tauqir Islam, managed to eject before the plane crashed. Although some posts on Facebook claimed his death, his colleagues have denied any official confirmation. Two platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have also been deployed at the spot to maintain law and order and assist in rescue operations.
