New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has reached out for a ceasefire, making the statement on his social media platform. In his post, Trump referred to a “new administration” in Iran and suggested that its leadership was more willing to engage compared to the previous government.

He stated that the United States would consider a ceasefire only if the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz is reopened and made safe for navigation. Trump also warned that until such conditions are met, US military actions would continue. However, he did not clearly specify which “new regime” or leadership in Iran he was referring to in his remarks.

Earlier reports in US media indicated possible backchannel discussions involving Iranian leaders including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Meanwhile, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has stated that Tehran is open to a ceasefire provided it receives adequate security guarantees.

Trump’s recent comments reflect a shift in tone, as he had earlier threatened strong military action against Iranian energy infrastructure if shipping through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted. More recently, he has also hinted that the conflict could end through broader international intervention, even without resolving all key issues.
