Washington (The Uttam Hindu): US President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama of 'betraying' the country regarding the 2016 presidential election, after which Obama's spokesperson reacted. The spokesperson called these allegations 'absurd' and 'a weak attempt to divert attention'. According to 'Xinhua' news agency, when the media questioned Trump on the matter related to the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein, he started targeting Obama.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, the US President said, "They tried to tamper with the election and got caught. There should be strict punishment for this. This was a betrayal of the country."

Trump called former President Barack Obama the 'leader of the gang' and alleged that the Democrats allegedly rigged the elections from 2016 to 2020. This party also includes Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

There has been no formal response from the Democrats yet, but Obama's spokesperson has already described Trump's allegations as 'absurd' and an 'attempt to divert attention'.

Patrick Rodenbush, a spokesman for former President Barack Obama, said, "Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally respond to the lies and misinformation that continue to emanate from the White House, but these claims are so outrageous that we must respond. These bizarre allegations are completely absurd and a feeble attempt to distract attention."

It is noteworthy that Jeffrey Epstein, who had extensive connections with American political and business giants, was accused of sexual crimes. He was arrested. He died in jail in August 2019, which was officially declared a suicide. Epstein had deep connections with American political and business personalities.

During the 2024 presidential election campaign, Donald Trump promised that if he was re-elected, he would make public the documents related to Jeffrey Epstein.

However, earlier this month, the US Justice Department and the FBI issued a joint memo stating that no incriminating 'client list' existed, adding that "no further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted."

The Trump administration's changing position on this issue has been widely criticized. Some angry supporters have even demanded the resignation of Attorney General Pam Bondi.
